This is homage to the most loyal, loving companion one could hope for. He is surrounded by photos of his favorite things- his big sister Chelsea, who he followed the first day at the shelter and continued to for the rest of his life. His rescued kitty, who was relentless in her affections for him. Geese, which he love to chase. Photos of the dog park, the beach, and the river - his favorite places-are behind his dog park pass and a shell from a Florida vacation. Paw prints are made from his paw impression. Relevant song lyrics: Peter Gabriel’s “I Grieve” flank either side, “More Than This “fills the top portion, and Trains “Calling All Angels” runs throughout. A watch that stopped soon after he did hangs above a bone half done. His ashes are in a jeweler’s container, his collar in a niche built for it. The “great dog” constellation tops the roof, and a winged version of Charlie hovers underneath.

Many rituals are in place for grieving the loss of a person, but not necessarily an animal. This was my solution for my Charlie bear, 1997-2005.
