Marie Doogan Memorial text

I first considered making art memorials after being a resident at I-Park, an artist colony in rural Connecticut. The memorial park, entitled Thanatopolis, has always been an integral part of the plan for I-Park. It encourages an array of alternative options for creatively engaging the issues of grief, memory and the aesthetics of memorialization. See http://www.i-park.org for more information.

I created an early entry in the form of a sculpture dedicated to my grandmother, Marie Struka Doogan.

The second piece featured celebrates the life of my loyal and devoted companion, who just happened to be a canine, not a human.Memorials
